ONE JOB

SEASON 10 RULES

Everything you need to know for Season 10.

HOW TO PLAY

One Job is simple: pick one NFL kicker each week.

If your kicker makes every field goal and extra point they attempt that week, you survive and advance.

If your kicker misses a field goal or extra point, it counts as a miss. Blocked kicks also count as misses.

You can only use each kicker once during the season.

Last person standing wins the entire pot.

ENTRY

Entry for Season 10 is $30.

The competition is winner take all. The final prize will be determined by the total number of paid entries.

Last year's champion won $3,000.

Your Season 10 entry is not official until your entry fee has been received.

MAKING YOUR WEEKLY PICK

Each week, you must select one NFL kicker who you have not previously used this season.

Once you use a kicker, that kicker is no longer eligible for you for the remainder of the season.

You may change your selection before your pick locks.

Your pick locks at the scheduled kickoff of your selected kicker's game. Once that game has kicked off, you cannot change your pick.

If you do not submit a pick before kickoff of the final eligible game of the week, it counts as a miss.

WHAT COUNTS AS A MISS

Every official field goal and extra-point attempt by your kicker must be successful.

Any of the following counts as a miss:

  • A missed field goal.
  • A missed extra point.
  • A blocked field goal.
  • A blocked extra point.

A kick that is nullified by a penalty and is not recorded as an official attempt does not count.

If your kicker plays but does not attempt a field goal or extra point, you survive and advance.

Official NFL game statistics will be used to determine whether a kick was officially attempted and whether it was made, missed, or blocked.

EXTRA LIFE

Every player begins the season with one Extra Life.

When your kicker misses for the first time, your Extra Life is automatically used. You remain alive and advance to the following week.

Your Extra Life is then gone for the remainder of the season.

You do not need to activate it or make any special selection. It is applied automatically.

EDGE OF EXTINCTION

The Edge of Extinction gives players who have already used their Extra Life one final opportunity to stay in the competition during the early part of the season.

The Edge of Extinction operates during Weeks 3 through 7.

Going to the Edge

If you have already used your Extra Life and your kicker misses again during Weeks 2 through 6, you are not immediately eliminated.

Instead, you are automatically sent to the Edge of Extinction for the following week.

You do not need to opt in or submit anything to become eligible for the Edge.

Week 6 is the final week in which a miss can send someone to the Edge.

If you have already used your Extra Life and your kicker misses during Week 7 or later, you are eliminated.

The Edge Kicker

During each Edge of Extinction week — Weeks 3 through 7 — everyone currently alive in the regular competition (and not on the Edge themselves) will vote for the Edge kicker.

The kicker receiving the most votes becomes that week's Edge Kicker.

Everyone currently on the Edge shares that kicker for the week.

Surviving the Edge

If the Edge Kicker makes every field goal and extra point they attempt that week, everyone currently on the Edge survives and returns to the regular competition the following week.

If the Edge Kicker misses, everyone currently on the Edge is eliminated.

After Returning From the Edge

Once you have survived the Edge and returned to the regular competition, you are in sudden death for the remainder of the season.

You cannot return to the Edge of Extinction a second time.

Any subsequent miss eliminates you.

End of the Edge

Week 7 is the final Edge of Extinction week.

Therefore, a player who has already used their Extra Life and misses during Week 7 is eliminated, rather than being sent to the Edge in Week 8.

INJURIES, SCRATCHES & BACKUP KICKERS

It is each player's responsibility to select an active kicker.

Before Kickoff

If your selected kicker is ruled out, scratched, released, inactive, or otherwise becomes unavailable before kickoff, your pick will be marked as ineligible and you will need to select another eligible kicker whose game has not yet kicked off.

During the Game

If your selected kicker participates in the game and then leaves because of injury or another circumstance without having missed a kick, you survive the week.

You do not inherit the results of a replacement kicker.

If your selected kicker recorded a miss before leaving the game, that miss still counts.

INVALID PICKS & BYE WEEKS

You are responsible for submitting an eligible kicker.

You cannot select:

  • A kicker you have already used that season.
  • A kicker whose team is on a bye.
  • A kicker whose game has already kicked off.

The website will prevent these selections whenever possible.

If an invalid selection nevertheless remains as your official pick after the applicable deadline, it counts as a miss.

A kicker who becomes injured, inactive, or otherwise unavailable after being validly selected is handled under Injuries, Scratches & Backup Kickers above.

NO PICK

If you do not submit an eligible kicker before kickoff of the final eligible game of the week, it counts as a miss.

A no-pick is treated the same way as a missed kick for purposes of your Extra Life, Edge of Extinction eligibility, or elimination.

If you still have your Extra Life: your Extra Life is used.

If you are eligible for the Edge of Extinction: you are sent to the Edge.

If you have no Extra Life and are no longer eligible for the Edge: you are eliminated.

HOW TO WIN

Last person standing wins the entire pot.

Everyone Remaining Misses in the Same Week

If every remaining player is eliminated during the same week, the competition does not end in a tie.

Those players advance together to the following week and continue playing until one true champion remains.

WEEK 18 PLAYOFF

If two or more players remain alive entering Week 18, the league moves to the One Job Week 18 Playoff.

Each remaining player will select and rank 15 kickers they have not previously used that season, from highest to lowest priority.

The list will be ranked:

#1 — highest priority
#2 — second priority
#3 — third priority
...
#15 — lowest priority

All 15 kickers are then evaluated based on their Week 18 results.

At the conclusion of Week 18, each player's highest-ranked kicker who did not miss a field goal or extra point becomes their highest surviving selection.

The player with the highest-priority surviving kicker wins One Job.

Example

Player A's:

  • #1 kicker misses.
  • #2 kicker misses.
  • #3 kicker makes every kick.

Player A's highest surviving selection is #3.

Player B's:

  • #1 kicker misses.
  • #2 kicker makes every kick.

Player B's highest surviving selection is #2.

Player B wins.

If two or more players have a surviving kicker at the same priority level, comparison moves to their next-highest surviving kicker and continues down their ranked lists until the tie is broken.

Extra Life in the Week 18 Playoff

If a player still has an unused Extra Life entering the Week 18 Playoff, that Extra Life acts as an automatic surviving #1 position.

Their ranked kicker selections then begin at the next priority position.

OFFICIAL RESULTS & STAT CORRECTIONS

One Job uses official NFL game statistics to determine results.

If an official statistical correction changes whether a field goal or extra point was recorded as an attempt, make, miss, or block, One Job standings may be updated accordingly.

The website will automate scoring whenever possible, but official NFL game statistics take precedence over a website display or technical error.

COMMISSIONER RULINGS

Football occasionally produces situations that aren't reasonably covered by the rulebook.

If an unusual situation occurs that is not explicitly addressed here, the Commissioner may issue a ruling necessary to resolve it.

Any ruling will follow the existing rules as closely as possible and preserve the competitive intent of One Job.

When a new situation establishes a useful precedent, this rulebook may be updated so the ruling is clear going forward.
